The Rab Microlight Alpine is the perfect mid or outer layer for those demanding exceptional levels of warmth when on the mountain or hill but also want to carry little weight and be able to pack really small. Making this a great piece of kit for the Adventure racer, mountain walker or the lightweight Alpinist.
Pertex Microlight fabric is, as the name suggests, a very light fabric that is highly breathable and windproof. This combination enables the Microlight jacket to be used as either a midlayer or outer layer depending on the conditions. The 140g of 750 fill power (US) goose down is held closely in place by stitched through narrow baffles, ensuring enduring warmth for the wearer.
The shape of the Microlight enables unrestricted movement. While the hood with it's wired peak will keep your head warm and the wind and spindrift out. But please remember this if a lightweight down jacket, if you require greater insulation then consider a heavier jacket, such as the ME Lightline jacket please see related products below.

Rab Microlight Alpine Review
Reviewer: James Leavesley, Birmingham (10-3-2012)
I have always been slightly against down jackets having done most of my walking and hiking in the UK, but then I bought this and changed my mind. It is a great multi-use, multi-country, multi-condition jacket. I now use this when I am in the Alps, pretty much living in it day and evening.
When in the UK it lives in my pack and comes out in either very wintry conditions under my shell or when we stop for lunch. For something that packs down so small it has amazing warmth. Once you pull up the zip you know that you are going to be kept nice and warm. It has a great fit meaning that you don't feel or look like the Michelin man! I would definitely recommend this jacket. Five stars from me.

Bought because of its lightweight and 'warmth value' has proved to be a real bonus for the current Winter weather. Stuffs easily into a day sack and has virtually no weight to speak of. Good tailored fit which doesn't ride up when walking uphill or negotiating stiles. Snug, easily adjustable hood completes the cocoon effect against the bitter cold days of the last week. Used three times now in the space of seven days. One of the best purchases ever. Good price and prompt delivery. FIVE STARS *****

I have had this jacket for a while now it is both warm and light weight. It has a generous sized hood for a helmet. The shell is a little delicate so I save it for times when weight matters. I have slept in it and a half sleeping bag on cold damp mountain marathons and it has been perfect. I also carry it ski touring in the Alps. It is perfect as a warmer layer for the early morning starts or high ridges. Overall it gives the insulation of a very thick fleece for the fraction of the weight.

I love this jacket. It is incredibly lightweight and provides enough heat. I like to wear it while I assure the leader and I'm standing in the belay. It is also ideal in the bivouac, to supplement your sleeping bag, if it is a bit thin. The arrangement of the baffles ensures the feathers are well distributed. Weighs less than Polartec fleece and gives me more heat, so I am using this jacket as a middle layer. As the jacket is thin, I wear a Gore-tex hardshell jacket on top.

I bought this as a replacement for my TNF Summit Series Redpoint Optimus jacket which has started to see better days! I love how light it is, and the hood is excellent. As usual from Rab it is VERY well made, with excellent down.
I use mine all the time, from dog walks to ski touring in the alps, Great kit, especially as a midlayer!
