Got one for my first trip for continental ice fall climbing. Fitted on to my Elios easily (need a 4mm drill). Survived being packed in my rucksack. A slight knack in folding it away for transport. Worked well shielding my face (from ice)(and felt it would offer good protection from other things like ice tools...). Didn't steam up (pleasant surprise) and thus better than goggles. Not scratched it SO FAR. Pleased with it, though seems a bit expensive. Not quite so convinced about what it will be like in Scotland (but that isn't really what I got it for).

I wasn't much impressed with the visor. The idea itself is good and bad at the same time. The problem is when you do ice climbing you must see the next metres very clear in order to find a right next placement. Through this visor you cannot see perfectly. I'm not talking when it's water dipping down on you, then it becomes absolutely useless. Even in ideal conditions there always can be some ice debris that will eventually fall on and need to be wiped out of the visor. Doing it with the wet gloves will make it only worse... the general feeling with this one is also a bit weird, but this I believe is a point of habit. It's better on mixed climbing, but then you don't really need it. Ended up accumulating dust in my storage. Wouldn't recommend it.

On the plus side this is a good idea for keeping the wind, ice, rain, and small rocks off of your face without the claustrophobia and faff of goggles ... and especially useful if you are a spectacle wearer. The visor flips up easily when not needed and the view through it is clear and undistorted. On the negative side the price is high considering what you get, the lugs on the visor don't fit properly into the hinges (though the connection seems still secure), the instructions are pretty abysmal, and the actual assembly requires a bit of brute force ... oh and did I mention the price. Ouch!

I've used this visor with the Meteor III helmet ice climbing in France, and it was brilliant :) I don't know why I'd never bothered before when going ice climbing - it makes life so much easier. The plus points: * Good clear vision through the visor, with anti-fog treatment so it doesn't steam up * Protects face against ice fall when climbing or belaying - you can happily hack away above your head ;) * Works well even if there is a lot of spindrift - I didn't have goggles or glasses on, and none of the spindrift was getting into my eyes * Flips up out of the way easily if you want to drink, etc * Storage position flat against the helmet for packing the helmet in a rucksack, luggage, etc (slightly fiddly, but you don't need any tools) The bad points: * At 30 the Petzl Vizion seems pretty expensive for a couple of hinges and a single piece of clear plastic, especially when you compare it to the cost of a helmet at around 60. * Initially fitting the plastic hinges onto the visor was a pain, and the written instructions were poor. I had to put so much force onto the visor I was sure I'd break it. Once fitted it is easy to use, but the instructions could be improved a lot.
