The Petzl Charlet Quark is primarily a technical mountaineering axe, yet is incredibly versatile, at home on steep water ice and mixed ground as well as alpine faces.
The Petzl Charlet Quark has great clearance and optimal balance making each axe placement as efficient as possible and hooking incredibly secure. The Quark comes with a removable GripRest and TrigRest making the Quark ideal for leashless climbing by offering a variety of hand positions so you can swap and move hands on the tool without affecting its balance. The axe can be stripped down to only 460g by removing the GripRest, TrigRest and Adze/Hammer; meaning the Quark can be specialised to fit your exact climbing need.

Excellent ice tools!
These axes are a bit less extreme than some tools, but they are much better for use when the terrain isnīt perfect ice - ideal for wrestling up Scandinavian ice/frozen grass/rock, where you occasionally have to use the whole axe and not just the pick. Nice balance in the axes, though I havenīt tried the hammer enough to say if they are good for pitons.

Nicely balanced technical ice tools with a great feel - perfect for alpine routes as well as steep icefalls.
Swing, hook and place solidly and really give confidence on steep ice. The grip rest is a really usefull feature and gives the confidence to go leashless. Shaft also plunges pretty well despite the grip rest (without trig rest). Hardly ever bash knuckles as clearance is good.
Not used them for mixed routes so can't comment on that.

Awesome axe. Very well weighted, perfect balance. Excellent swing, good, solid placements with minimal swings. Excellent for hooking as well. Had a great Alpine week with a brand new pair of these. Worth every penny, would recommend getting the pick weights for pure water ice though.
