Petzl Ecrin Roc Climbing Helmet Review

This helmet does everything a helmet should do and at the same time being really comfortable. I first tried one when I borrowed it off of a friend. The two wheel system made it easy to adjust and the cradle design for the helmet makes it really safe and durable.
Also it has markers on the straps at the side of the helmet to show you when its time to get a new one what a clever idea that was.

This was my very first helmet and a brilliant helmet it was. The idea of twin wheel to tighten and loosen the helmet made it very easy and effortless to put on. The structure of the cradle made it a very comfortable fit and is a great durable helmet. The feature I’ve only recently learnt about is on the inside Petzl put small yellow lines on the cradle and when they are no longer visible it shows that the helmet has taken a big hit. Which amazed me and was such a good idea. I would defiantly buy again but gone more light weight now.

I purchased the Ecrin Rock four years ago initially as a summer climbing helmet. With plenty of padding around the head and the cross strap structure for the top of the head makes for a very comfortable helmet even on a long day out.
The twin wheel adjustment system works very well, and is easy to adjust even with gloved hands.
I currently use the helmet for Gorge Walking and caving. With seven ‘holes’ each side the helmet is well ventilated, Petzl do offer hole plugs for wetter environments but I find duct tape works well.
I also work for centres that use this helmet with groups as they are very durable, and the deformation grid on the inside allows for quick and easy yet comprehensive inspection. All-round great work-horse of a helmet.

I purchased this helmet for my trip to Kaukaz mountains in Russia. In order to climb Mount Elbrus (5600 meters above sea level).
It was very good choice because the helmet can protect your head very well. On the slopes of Mt Elbrus there is a lot of ice and every fall can be really dangerous. I felt really safe knowing that Ecrin Roc is protecting my head. But if you are buying that helmet and want to use it in cold and windy conditions you must know that you need to buy Ecrin Roc Hole Plugs as well, and that is additional cost. Otherwise cold wind will get inside your helmet. Really not nice experience. But generally speaking I am happy being the owner of that helmet. I will be using it on my future trips as well.

I've had the Ecrin Rock helmet for a while now, having received it as a present shortly after I started climbing. The helmet is very robust and durable, and is the style of helmet that could probably handle a number of knocks before needing replacement.
The fitting mechanism is comfortable and easily adjustable for a tight fit. The head fits on a 'cradle' which is held about an inch from the shell, so there's plenty of ventilation - I have had no problems climbing in the sun in Italy with the helmet on.
The only downside is that it's heavier than many other helmets, particularly the cycle-helmet style helmets. I see a lot of these helmets when I'm out climbing, so I guess it must be popular for a reason!

I have recently purchased this helmet for Climbing, abseiling and also for canyoning. It allows easy breathing so no concerns with overheating. It's lightweight and compact and with the two adjuster wheels its childs play to get the right fit.
After its been on your head for a few minutes , no matter what the activity is that your involved in, you simply dont notice that its there.
This is one I will be recommending to anyone interested in getting their own safety helmet for mountain sports.

THE hard shell helmet - usability and adjustability is spot on, and the helmet is a pleasure to wear. Sits quite high so for some might feel a bit bulky, but on the other improves the feeling of security from hard blows from above. This helmet can take the beating.
