The Ortovox Professional Aluminium Shovel is one of our best shovels on the market. The Professional Aluminium is great for everybody except ski tourers who need super light kit. The Aluminium blade is extremely strong and stiff and its narrow blade edge gives excellent digging performance in avalanche debris and hard icy snowpacks.

The Pro Alu's strong, telescoping aluminium handle has an excellent T-shaped grip. ingeniously the blade can also be attached to the handle of the shovel to create a pick, great for shifting softer snow. The Pro Alu is not the lightest shovel we sell but it's definitely the fastest digger.

The Professional Aluminium Shovel is a great choice for the professional or those after the best.

I purchased this shovel to take on backcountry trips in Norway. It works great, the shovelling action feels comfortable for a folding shovel and is lightweight. My only grumble is the blade has dented slightly at the tip end after hitting a couple of rocks whilst moving snow nevertheless I would still recommend this to anyone that needs to take a shovel in their pack. Nice bright colour too!

The main thing I was looking for when purchasing a shovel for snowboarding was it size, large enough to do the job, but compact to fit into my Dakine Mule hydration pack. This shovel does both. Fortunately I’ve not had to dig anyone out of an avalanche, but I have used it to build kickers (jumps). I was very impressed how well it worked as a pick, and used it like this for 95% of the time. The handle is made out of triangle shaped tubing, rather than round, which makes it incredibly easy to fit together, very important when speed is of the essence. The logo on the handle has a gritty texture for extra grip. The blade is stiff, strong and has good edge to it which works well on the compacted snow. Overall this is a very well designed shovel at a great price with no negatives that I can think of.

I bought the shovel for backcountry skiing in St. Anton, Austria. The shovel is the perfect size for bringing along. Not to small so that shoveling takes forever and not too big to fit in a backpack. Just the right size. The shaft is fairly long too so the shoveling position gets quite comfortable. I got the Mammut Alugator Light shovel as well, and that one is just too small in my opinion. The square shape of the shovelhead makes it possible to step with your boots on it. That’s really good if the snow is hard packed. It’ a must! The quality seems good and it is really easy to assemble. Only downside is the grip tape on the shaft. It gives good grip, but it ruins your gloves. You wont find a better shovel, if you want to travel light, excellent!
