Ortovox Probe 200cm Economic Review

Not the most fancy of probes but considering it is a budget option it does the job well.
Pros:
- Depth markings are clear to read.
Cons:
- Poles don't snap together as nicely as some other models do, some have to be guided into place.
- A little fiddly (especially with thick gloves) to secure at the top.

This is a simple, light probe with no frills. Having seen one of these in action on an avalanche training day, I had no hesitation in choosing this model. Supplied with a quality storage bag. Should be a reliable piece of kit for years to come.

If your looking for smaller and lighter this is good, packs down well, but most importantly it clicks together quickly without much fuss. Never had to use it in an emergency but practiced with it and its great. Only bad thing is it’s shorter than most probes, so if you want to be extra sure, buy a longer one. Saying that it is the cheaper option by quite a lot, so if you’re on a budget this is ideal. Its better to have one than not at all.
