The Peak X-Light is the choice for weight conscious ski tourers. This pack has been developed to keep the weight down whilst still offering essental features.
The main compartment is loaded from the top and is secured with a snow flap with double toggle and compression belt.
The spacious compartment on the front panel provides quick access to the avalanche probe and shovel. The small compartment underneath accommodates the matching Easy Help Pack for an emergency situation. Both compartments can be opened through waterproof zippers, as are the pocket on the hip belt and the outside top pocket.
The pack's top has an additional net pocket on the inside. All sorts of items or even a climbing helmet can be attached to the top with an elastic cord. Skis can be attached to the sides; Clip Fix buckles are reinforced to repel sharp objects. A snowboard can also be attached. Loops for holding an ice axe or poles are also provided as well as for rope or crampons and an extra loop for fixing equipment on the hip belt. Hydration systems are well-arranged on the inside using eyelets or pockets. The drinking tube line fixes the tube on the shoulder strap and prevents the tube from dangling. The easily adjustable chest strap is equipped with an emergency signal whistle.
The hip belt can be adjusted on both sides. If you don't need the 29 litre volume, you can also easily compress it completely vertically and horizontally.
Weight is an amazing 850g. As with all ultralite designs, this pack is not as durable as the other Ortovox Packs. It is still strong but will not have quite the life of other packs, so recomended just for use on tours rather than every day use.
This pack was tested by me last season and it is a great touring pack for tours up to 3-4 days.
