The Ortovox Haute Route pack is a great ski touring pack. A good size for big days out or for multi day hut to hut tours. Strong, high quality Cordura construction means the Haute Route will last you for years to come. If you liked the old style Ortovox packs you’ll love this one.
The zipper on the Haute Route goes right around the pack, so you can open up the entire top and easily get to all the contents. Separate compartment for your avalanche safety equipment and plenty of space for your other items. At 1500g the Haute Route is pretty light for a 35 Litre sack, which is important on long tours where weight saving means more enjoyment.

Ortovox Haute Route 35 Pack Review

I bought this pack to use on the 5 day Silvretta Alps tour. The pack design and access is excellent. When fully loaded the pack is really comfortable on the back and has a low centre of gravity and is secure to the body when conducting tight turns. The main compartment is accessed from the rear which allows for slick water stops, putting skins away and generally good admin! Don’t be put off by the zips as they are strong and robust and were stress loaded during the tour. The six compartments allow emergency equipment to be stowed and not disturbed during the tour, thereby reducing the faff factor in the huts. The straps enable the skis to be carried diagonally across the pack and to be fixed quickly and carried comfortably.
My only negative point is the capacity. Other reviewers found 35 litres ample, however I found I had to leave the ropes on the outside as I had no room inside for group equipment. I am 6' 2'' and size 12 feet so crampons and personal equipment is a little larger than most, but in hindsight I wish I had purchased the 45 litre version.
So in summary a fantastic pack ideal for touring, very comfortable to ski & skin in with no rubs or friction burns, but maybe a little small if you plan on carrying group safety equipment.

I bought this pack specifically for the Haute Route last year and was very impressed with it. It was the perfect size for this multiple day route. It kept the weight at the right height for ski-ing, and was much preferable to the high balance point that my climbing sack gave me.
I really liked the zip round feature that meant you could get to your crampons, axe, harscheisen, skins or waterproofs quickly and easily. The fabric is also very hard wearing and I'll get many years out of it. Highly recommended.
