The Ortovox F1 uses a single antenna with no signal processing. It can be a very effective transceiver in the hands of someone who is familiar with it but does need regular practise to keep search times down.

The F1 is the most common analogue transceiver but it's technology is over 10 years old. The introduction of digital transceivers means that features that were helpful when analogue searching are now slowing down digital searches. However with practise you can be just about as effective when searching with an F1 as with any other transceiver

Analogue Mode


The F1 uses 1 antenna and does NOT process the received signal. The F1 varies the volume and pitch of the beep according to the strength of the received signal. The searcher moves the transceiver around and compares the latest beep to those before it to decide if you are getting nearer to the victim or not. This sounds pretty basic but in experienced hands an analogue transceiver can be just as effective as a digital transceiver, but the key is that the searcher needs to be knowledgeable and practised to be effective.

About You


The F1 is good for those who want an Ortovox product in a good value package. Remember that the F1 is more difficult to use than digital models. If you are familiar with this technology and are on a budget then the F1 will be the unit for you but you are commiting to doing plenty of search practise so you can rescue your friends
