The Ortlieb Saddle Bag is similar in design to a roll top dry bag providing you with a 100% waterproof and durable bag. Made from PU coated cordura this saddle bag will definitely keep your kit dry. The fitting kit mounts on the saddle rails and then the bag clicks in and out very easily. Spare mountings are available for quickly switching between bikes, see related products below.
The small saddle bag (0.8L) is large enough for your tools, spares, phone and energy bar. It's not a tiny racers saddle bag but one you can actually get some stuff inside. Aimed at recreational cyclists and racers on training rides. The medium (1.3L) and large (2.7L) saddle bags are aimed at cycle tourists and audaxers. The medium will hold all your spares plus a dry thermal or hat/gloves or lunch for those that will be out all day. The large will hold enough to cycle all day & night with all the clothing changes and snacks that that entails. It's a BIG saddle bag.

Ortlieb Saddle Bag Review

I own a fair bit of bike equipment including Ortlieb. This bag is the worst. Baffling instructions, will not fit the saddle, uncooperative jamming click fitting and, however many times you roll the bag opening it is liable to roll open again, unlike Ortlieb panniers.

My girlfriend has had the medium and large sizes for a while and likes them but find's taking them off a bit fiddly. I've bought my own recently and don't have a problem. The medium is a good size for most day rides. It means I don't have to over stuff my jersey pockets. I travel light on longer rides so the big one in combo with a handle bar bag will be all I need. They’re well made and I think they should last a good while. Friends of ours have been asking about them. Haven't tested them in the rain yet but they look pretty water proof. Handy plastic thingys underneath for attaching a light or strapping on a small waterproof jacket.
Ride easy, Kieron.

Ortlieb Saddle Bag Review

I'm using this bag for my work commute to replace my rucksack. First impressions are good, although it was slightly fiddly to fit.
Today I packed a pair of trousers, a shirt, a tyre pump, a spare inner tube, puncture repair kit, an allen key, a spanner, a spare front light, two bananas and an apple. I'm really pleased with the size. That was about its limit, so it should give you an indication of the capacity of the largest size.
Because the bag is suspended high up on the bike, it can affect balance, and makes the bike slightly wobbly.
The bag is waterproof, although I've not tested this yet.
I can see this bag being good for commutes and longer day trips out, when you want to take some lunch, your repair tools and a jacket, but don't want to use panniers or a rucksack.

Ortlieb Saddle Bag Review

I bought the large (2.7L) Ortlieb saddle bag in the hope that it would be big enough to help me transport some of basic gardening and d.i.y. tools.
I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of items that I could fit into this bag e.g. hand trowel and fork, gardening gloves and secateurs and still have room for my puncture repair kit.
Miles big enough for your everyday/allday needs. This bag can easily take your bike tools, repair kit, mini pump, lightweight rain mac and your lunch.
It's tough. it's waterproof. It's exellent. Fitting the bag to your bike is fairly easy and the velcro strap which goes around the seat post really helps to keep the bag securely on the bike.
On the negative side I do find it slightly awkward to unclip and remove the bag when it is not required. End of the day; a great bag with bags of room.
