So this is the first time I've used ME climbing trousers and so far I'm very pleased. The material is mid-weight and therefore a compromise for warmth, running risk of too warm or not warm enough, however so far in Scotland they've worked well and appear to be hard wearing. Fit - I've large thighs and they are not restrictive. Only slight negative is i'd say the in-build belt is a bit fiddly and doesn't give great scope for much alteration, if indeed you like to pack warmer tops inside the trousers, so as not to get in the way of racking your gear on your harness.

I'm a pretty average all round climber, doing mostly sea cliff Trad at the moment.

The outdoor retail market seems totally saturated with jackets of every possible permutation, many pretty pointless and so 'lightweight' they barely last a season. Trousers are a whole other ball game. Finding a decent pair that fit, aren't restrictive and last is tricky. I've had thin walking trousers, softshell, canvas, stretchy jeans, gusset, non gusset, baggy and fitted.

Enter the hope. Tough, stretchy, well cut, surprisingly cool even in direct sun and pretty much ideal for the rigours of sea cliff trad. I've been using them every other day for a month and their ability to keep you warm on a shady belay but not cook you if you then climb into the sun is brill. They are a little bit pricey but they don't feel like they'll wear out for a few years and the blue is bright enough to show up in photos but not make you feel like an idiot when you walk down the street.

Nice one Mountain Equipment :)
