The Mountain Equipment G2 Alpine Jacket is a lightweight softshell jacket that will keep the biting cold wind out and will shed moisture and snow as you move on the mountain, whether you're walking, ski touring or climbing. The roll away shell hood offers another layer of protection.
The G2 Alpine uses the new lighter and thinner Gore Windstopper Softshell fabric. The Gore WINDSTOPPER contains a membrane which completely blocks the wind and is very water resistant but there is a trade off in breathability. If you're looking for a very breathable softshell jacket then take a look at the Astron Hooded Jacket made from Powershield. please see related products below.

Mountain Equipment G2 Alpine Jacket Review
Reviewer: David Bartholomew, Cheltenham (13-2-2012)
This is a terrific jacket. I've had mine for 9 months now and worn it in a variety of conditions from mild to well sub-zero, dry to quite wet, and still to very windy, and it's been performed very well and been comfortable to wear in them all. It has no thermal resistance to speak of, so in cold weather I usually wear a Rab Generator gilet under it; they make an ideal match. I've found the windproofing-breathability trade-off appreciably better in most conditions than in my Rab Vapour Rise, and it's much easier to put on over most mid-layers (the lining in the Vapour Rise clings madly to fleece in particular, though the silky Generator is OK). The pockets will hold an OS map, and more (or a collapsible brolly, so it's good in town, too). And the hood fits more neatly into the collar than on any other hard or soft shell I've ever had, without noticeable sacrifice in effectiveness. It's almost embarrassing to sound so gushing, but the G2 really is that good.

This new G2 is lighter than the previous versions and doesn't have the (in my view) unsightly externally taped seams either. This is also a much more flexible jacket than you might expect - the previous ones were more 'stiff' but this is more like a genuine soft shell in softness - comparable to the sister model Shield or Astron jackets. But like its predecessor, this jacket is virtually bomb-proof and will withstand all but the heaviest rain and snow. An essential item for the Scottish mountains in all 4 seasons!

This is a great jacket. The fabric is soft but htink enough to keep the elements out. Yet this version of Windstopper is thin enough to allow it to breathe. The G" has exactly the combination of features I was looking for.

Jacket arrived in extremely prompt time - hats off to face West.
Jacket is total quality as expected from Mountain Equipment. Light technical jacket that is definitely worth the money - I like the "cut" of this jacket and its fit is great.
