The Marmot Zion Jacket is made from the new Polartec Neo Shell fabric, a totally waterproof jacket with stretch that is highly breathable and provides warmth from the light fleece interior. An ideal jacket for ski-tours and alpine climbing.

Polartec Neo Shell differs from other membrane waterproof fabrics in that it allows air to flow in both directions. It is this air flow that dramatically reduces the need for pressure and heat to drive vapour molecules through the membrane. Instead the water vapour is drawn through the fabric by the air flow and natural convection, keeping you drier during high exertion activity.

The Zion has a medium cut combined with the Angel Wing Movement that allows you to move freely and be able to lift your arms with out the jacket ridding up. Reinforcement to the shoulders prevents wear form your pack and adds a little style to the Zion. The Storm hood can be cinched down against the elements providing excellent protection from the worst weather. Two high pockets allow for a harness to be worn and are protected by water resistant zips as are the chest and sleeve pockets.

Got this jacket for alpine climbing use and some occasional skiing. I didn't get to test it since I had to return it because of the fit, which I didn't like because of the tapering in the arms, leaving a bulk around the armpits and the chest.The material seems stretchy but not that much and it seems to keep you warm enough to wear it over a baselayer and maybe a midlayer, but would be hard to imagine fitting down insulation underneath it. The pack-pockets are quite deep so you should be able to fit a map in there. Got a size S and I'm 38" across the chest. I would have probably kept the jacket if I could find an XS.
