The Marmot XT Glove is a durable, versatile, lightweight 3+ season glove ideal for skiing and brilliant for ice climbing, especially with leashless tools. They also make a great belay glove on, mountain rock routes thanks to their grippy, dexterous construction.
The gloves are super tough and grippy thanks to their Pittards Goatskin palm and finger reinforcement. The backing is a wind-proof laminated nylon to keep the weather out. The Thinsulate insulation forms a classic low-bulk, high-warmth layer which has been used in gloves for years and can be relied upon to keep you hands warm in all, but the bitterest of alpine winters.

Marmot XT Glove Review

I purchased this product for use in cold wet typical British conditions working with ropes and metal work. They have already provided hours of warm and dry hands still providing great dexterity and feel in your hands to tie knots and perform other such tasks. The thin glove can sometimes be a little cold but only when been worn for hours on end.

I purchased a pair of these gloves 3 years ago. Since then I used them for almost everything ranging from summer alpine mountaineering, rock climbing and simple hiking. I have to say these gloves are fantastic, perfect jack of all trades. They are very dexterous: I can handle not only the climbing hardware and tie knots in them, but also operate my DSLR camera.
Being softshell, they are not waterproof, but remain warm when wet, and that is a very important property! A minor negative comment: the palm-side seams are outwards, and they can be caught by fences, via ferrata cables or biner clips. Nowadays there is at least one competitor brand with absolutely similar gloves that have these seams inwards.

4.9 stars really ...

I bought these for winter climbing and I've used them both leashed and leashless in mostly dry, cold conditions. Fit, dexterity and grip are brilliant. I've not had problems with cold hands, although I tend to stick my gloves inside my jacket on belays. I've knocked a star off for the lack of a waterproof version for wet conditions (I've just bought some ME Cascade Xtrafits to try but if there was an Xtrafit version of the Marmot XT it would have been a no brainer!). I've also used them for spring skiing - comfy, breathable, great grip.
Highly recommended.

A nice lightweight glove which I have used for walking and skiing in both winter and spring. Excellent for ski touring due to their very light insulation which helps stop overheating on the up-hills. Equally they are windproof and somewhat insulated so hold up reasonably well in moderately cold conditions (in very cold conditions a pair with heavier insulation such as the Marmot work glove is better suited). The grip they provide is superb with the fingers and palms seeming to be made of some sort of manufactured leather which is incredibly grippy. Only downside is that for me they are not fully waterproof, they are very water resistant but in wet conditions they can eventually soak through.

Marmot XT Glove Review

These gloves seem a bit of an anomaly, not being targeted at any one specific use. But I love them and have bought a second pair! I’ve used them for winter mountain biking, UK winter climbing & ice climbing in dry conditions, ski mountaineering, down hill skiing, winter scrambling, and summer alpine use.
No issues with durability or quality in a year of use. The two things that make them so useful are (i) the brilliant dexterity and (ii) the high grip.
It’s quite a thin glove and the ugly but cunning ‘inside out’ stitching means that there is less bulk and stiffness. This means they are fine to actually climb in and use for gear.
The special treatment on the leather seems to make them get more grippy if they get damp which is especially useful when biking – I’ve had leather become super slippy when muddy in the past, which can be lethal.
There is a modest amount of insulation, and they are water resistant but not waterproof (the seams will leak and the palms absorb moisture) so I’d want a little but more in ‘classic’ (horrible) Scottish conditions – or maybe a shell mitt to put on over at stances (to be honest I’ve not actually needed more than these since getting them, but tend to run quite hot).
The price compares well with other ‘technical’ gloves, especially since I can use them for more than one disciple.
