The Marmot Womens Spire Jacket is one of our highest performing womens mountaineering shells. An ideal outer shell for ski tourers, winter mountaineers and winter walkers the Spire combines performance fabrics with a technical, womens-specific fit and a highly weatherproof construction.

The Womens Spire is a highly durable performance 3 layer GORE-TEX jacket, with fully taped seams; it is designed to be layered over the top of a fleece or softshell. It has a laminated wire rimmed Gale Force hood, which is big enough to fit over a helmet. The Spire jacket has PitZips and two chest pockets that can act as vents when you are working hard. There is a removable powder skirt integrated into the Spire jacket meaning it is a versatile shell that is great for skiing.

I have the 2010 Spire jacket which appears to have identical features and would definitely recommend it. With a pack on, the pockets are well placed for access and a decent size, the angel wing cut under the arms gives a really good range of motion without the body of the jacket rising up whilst scrambling and above all else its totally bombproof when it comes to keeping you dry and happy in a deluge - it rains A LOT up here in Lancashire!!

The hood easily fits my helmet and without it, there's really good adjustment to make sure the extra material can be tightened up to fit well and move with you as you turn your head. It is quite roomy on the sizing, but this is good if you're going to be needing a few base and mid layers underneath for winter use, if you get quite hot and don't layer up so much, you may be able to size down - I'm a size 8 and the size small is big enough that I can easily fit a baselayer, midweight fleece and softshell underneath with still some room to spare. Overall, a well designed and tough winter waterproof and I'm really pleased with it.
