Marmot Shadow Jacket Review
Reviewer: Shane Ward, London (27-12-2011)
I originally ordered a North Face McMurdo parka (which was significantly more expensive) but when it arrived it didn't feel well made in several areas for the price... Neck zipper region, filling, hood etc.
I read some other reviews and decided to order the Marmot Shadow jacket. I thought the green one would be good but had trouble finding it online in the UK. Eventually I got it and I sent The North Face jacket back for refund.
This Shadow jacket is great in lots of ways. Well made, nice features, top quality down filling and (apparently) waterproof - though I have yet to test it out in anger. It has all the hall marks of a quality jacket and you can tell it's been well designed and well made as soon as you put it on.
The only issue for me is that when I got the green it looked a bit different from the website in shades. No big deal I thought.. I'll just send it back for a black one, they're more common anyway. So (after days of expectant waiting and dropping temperatures outside) it arrives, and I'm pleased. Well, pleased for everything except for the annoying fact that it's not actually black.
It's says its black online, it's listed everywhere as a black jacket - it even looks black in the picture - but as soon as you get it you can clearly see in daylight that it's in fact a dark navy blue. Made even more apparent by the truly black patches on the arms and along the sides. Ok, it's a very dark navy but it's most clearly NOT black. It doesn't require a trick of light, it's just very dark blue.
Now I'm torn.. I genuinely love the jacket but really wanted black (like it was advertised as being). Sigh. All up have sent three jackets back already so I am loathe to do it again. But why pay so much for something that's not as advertised. Please marmot. If you advertise a black jacket - at least make it black. It's not hard.
All up though, colour aside, it's a great jacket that's brilliant for the price, well made and (if the colours suit your taste) highly recommended.
