Marmot Ion Windshirt

The Marmot Ion is a completely unlined version of the Marmot driclime windshirt with the addition of a hood. The shell is 100% nylon with a DWR coating, any moisture from either side of the fabric is pulled into the weave and spread out over as large an area as possible for the quickest drying time. The Ion is a great jacket to wear for high aerobic sports on cooler days and as a layering piece for colder environments. The Ion Windshirt has elasticated cuffs and a drawcord in the hood but no waist hem and a loose cut for perfect freedom of movement.
It can be inserted between any 2 layers in a layering system to add another layer of fabric and trapped air for only 142g extra weight.

The Ion windshirt was my favourite piece of kit from summer 2007. I generally use mine for fell running and mountain biking but also took it ski touring in the spring. For running and biking I find most midlayers too warm but the Ion is just right. The hood is fantastic when you're out on the moor, running or biking and it's colder than expected especially around the ears. The Ion has no real water repelling qualities but dries really quickly after a shower. Washed mine again and again with no real change in the fabric.
For ski touring I wore the Ion on windy climbs where normally I am too hot in a classic windshirt but too cold in just my baselayer. As it gets colder just add more layers over the top.
