Mammut Probe Plus

The Mammut Probe Plus is has the same construction as the popular Probe Light but adds an extra section for greater probing depth. 7 sections make up its 280cm length with graduated depth markings on the side. The sections are also alternately colour anodised for quick reference.
The probe assembles quickly, thanks to the plastic ferrules at the end of each section and locks together simply by pulling the assembly cord far enough. Release is by a small spring loaded button.
This is an excellent probe for the regular backcountry traveller.

I purchased this avalanche probe in preparation for my International Mountain Leader Winter training course. I wanted to get the right balance between a probe that was light strong and had enough length to probe deep snow. This probe met all of these criteria.
It assembles easily and the retaining clip to keep the probe extended is positive. The extra length is helpful in probing deep snow and the constuction is strong allowing you to probe through more icy or compacted layers within the snow pack so you can be positive that you have comprehensively probed the area. The probe packs away easily and tidily in its pack.
