The Mammut Probe Light is a classic recreational aluminium avalanche probe. 6 sections make up it's 240cm length with graduated depth markings on the side. The sections are also alternately colour anodised for quick reference.

The probe assembles quickly, thanks to the plastic ferrules at the end of each section and locks together simply by pulling the assembly cord far enough. Release is by a small spring loaded button.

This is an excellent standard of probe at this price.

Great probe in a useful bag. It is long, light and has the depth markers on it. Very happy with it and it fits nicely into my pack as it is not too long when folded.

Its a compromise design of weight verses cost. I don't have endless amounts of money so its good for the job.

The draw cord needs a firm pull to tighten all the poles together. Chances are a lighter armed person would struggle to lock into place. However practice makes perfect like all this safety kit.

Good value as part of Facewest avalanche package. Light and fits well into an average daypack.

The locking mechanism is quick to use and works well and the probe seems reasonably solid when extended. The measurements on the probe make it easy to determine snow depth. Would recommend.
