Mammut Alugator Expert Shovel Review
Reviewer: Paul Gaines, Hexham (18-12-2010)
Out of the box this shovel looks good. It is lighter than I expected; lighter than a Black Diamond shovel I have. The telescopic handle is a good length especially for my bad back. I have used this shovel to dig out the car in the heavy snow; it moves snow fast and easily. It will be one of the first things into my winter rucksack.

Mammut Alugator Expert Shovel Review
Reviewer: Clare Andrews, Edinburgh (16-2-2010)
I purchased this shovel as avalanche rescue gear, having seen my friend's slightly older model. The main advantage is that it is a very big shovel with an easy-to-hold handle, which makes for quick digging in an emergency. The handle dismantles into 2 sections, allowing it to fit in my rucksack (35L Mammut Nirvana), and assembles together quickly - though as you have to align the handle and blade correctly and it could be an extra fiddle under stress perhaps (compared to shovels with telescopic handles). It feels pretty tough and has so far survived a few falls onto my rucksack. The main disadvantage is the large size - other shovels I have seen are quite a bit smaller and slightly lighter, but I decided to trade this off against speed of digging
