The MSR Sweetwater Purifier System comprises the standard MSR Sweetwater Microfilter with a food grade chlorine treatment to eliminate water bourne viruses. This system is ideal for use in develpoing countries and anywhere you think animal excrement may have contaminated the water.

Using a silica depth filter the MSR Sweetwater Microfilter removes particles down to 0.2 microns which includes Protozoa, bacteria, giardia and cryptosporidium. The Sweetwater Microfilter will also remove any chemical taste or odour from the water. A flowrate of 1.25 litres a minute requiring about 75 strokes mean your filtered water will be ready in no time.

After filtration simply add 5 drops of the chlorine based Sweetwater purifying solution to the water and wait 5 minutes. The water is now virus free. MSR tested this system using the virsus treatment before and after filtration, both of which work but MSR decided that the use of less purifier solution after filtration (which leaves a slight chlorine after taste) was preferable. The Sweetwater purifier System is completely field cleanable so good for extended trips. The replaceable filter cartridge provides about 750 litres of filtered water (depending on the state of the water you put in it) and an indicator lets you know when the cartridge needs replacing. But the best thing about the Sweetwater Purifier System is it's size and weight. Only 19cm high with a diameter of 5cm and weighing in at 320g for the Microfilter. Add to that another 100g or so for the purifier solution, pre filter and hoses for a complete system weight of 420g. The handle folds flat for superior packability.
