The MSR Sweetwater Microfilter is an ideal filter for lightweight backpacking and general travelling. Using a silica depth filter he MSR Sweetwater Microfilter removes particles down to 0.2 microns which includes Protozoa, bacteria, giardia and cryptosporidium.
The Sweetwater Microfilter will also remove any chemical taste or odour from the water. The only thing that the Microfilter does not remove is water bourne viruses. For this you usually use a chemical additive Like Iodine or Chlorine to kill the viruses. Please read How to Choose a Water Filter for more information.
A flowrate of over 1 litre a minute requiring about 75 strokes mean your clean water will be ready in no time. The Microfilter is completely field cleanable so good for extended trips.
The replaceable filter cartridge provides about 750 litres of clean water (depending on the state of the water you put in it) and an indicator lets you know when the cartridge needs replacing. But the best thing about the Sweetwater Microfilter is it's size and weight. Only 19cm high with a diameter of 5cm and weighing in at 320g the Microfilter is great for any lightweight adventure. The handle folds flat for superior packability.
As well as the Sweetwater Microfilter the kit also includes an 80-micron stainless-steel prefilter, two color-coded silicone hoses, foam float, Bottle adapter, cleaning brush, and stuff sack.
