The MSR Reactor is an integrated pot, burner and heat exchanger. It is the pinnacle of burner effciency and under lab conditions will boil 1 litre of water (from 21°C) in 3 minutes.
Faster boiling times mean less gas used, so the MSR reactor will boil more water per fuel can than other stoves too.
The MSR Reactor acheives this using 3 new technologies. The first is an incredible flame diffuser, called the Radiant Burner which makes sure you heat the entire bottom of the pot evenly. The second is a pressure regulator on the fuel canister which lets the gas out at just the right rate and maintains this rate over most of the life of the canister and lastly a windproof heat exchanger to make sure none of the heat generated escapes.
It's a massive amount of performance in one little stove. The MSR Reactor uses a 1.7 litre duralite pot. At 1.7 litres the pot is easily large enough to be used for 2 or even 3 people. The Duralite hard anodised aluminium means the pot is light, non stock and that the coating will really last.
When not in use the stove and gas canister pack away inside the pot. A collapsible handle locks the unique see-thru lid in place for safe and easy transport.
The Reactor's Radiant diffuser is a dome shape which fits into a matching depression in the bottom of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is part of the pot and cannot be used separately. This means that you cannot sit a normal flat bottomed pot on top of the stove. It's a small point as the reactor pot is such a great size but one worth noting.
