5 MSR Hubba Hubba HP Review

I have the 2011 Hubba Hubba (not the HP model). I bought this tent for my solo motorcycle adventure riding. What more is there to say about this awesome tent that has not already been said elsewhere. I use this 2 man tent solo, which gives me plenty of room inside to stow gear.

The main reason I upgraded my tent for this one is mainly for its quick and easy pitching, it's self supporting: so I can pitch it and move it easily if required, it's incredibly light weight and has an exceptionally small pack size.

Likewise, the version I have, has the mesh inner. I preferred the mesh inner for two principal reasons, firstly, it offers better ventilation and secondly, so that I could star gaze at night in great weather when not using the fly sheet.

The two vestibules provide plenty of space to store gear, very important on a motorbike with bulky gear: helmet, boots, jacket and trousers. I do prefer the new green colour fly sheet over the older yellow model but I admit I would prefer a slightly darker green if only to better suit my stealth camping needs.

What I dislike. It's quite expensive, prohibitively so. The Guyline kit has to be purchased separately although they’re really not needed except in really extreme wind. It doesn't have the ceiling net, which older versions did have and which I would have liked. It's not as dark a green as I would have ideally liked.

Overall though I am very happy with the MSR Hubba Hubba. It is exceptionally well designed and very well made despite its high price tag. The fly sheet has much more coverage than older models that tended to let in huge drafts, but thankfully this had been fixed and the tent is now more than adequate in all four seasons.

Facewest Note; The Hubba Hubba HP does not have a mesh inner tent, it has been designed for wetter European conditions.
