The K2 Backup is a Backcountry / Touring Ski.

The Backup is from K2's "Backside" series. This is a series of skis targeted at backcountry skiing. This ski is targeted at the backcountry skier / ski tourer who want a versatile all-rounder. The metal laminate construction gives it good versatility and will work well in tricky snow conditions as well as hard-pack. It's the recommended "One ski that can do it all" for someone who ski tours and skis resorts. It will do everything well and is very light.

Freeride:
We give this 2 stars. Too light and not fat enough for serious downhill performance.

Backcountry:
4 stars. Good at everything. Optimised for the most likely conditions you will find in the backcountry in Europe (ie mixed). Some will say it's not fat enough for full on powder days, but a good skier will be happy on this in all conditions.

Touring:
5 stars. A great hut to hut ski that will be ideal for those fast backcountry laps. If you are a ski tourer and want a ski that you can also use in bounds then this should be on your short list.

Facewest Verdict:
An ideal touring all rounder with plenty of backcountry versatility. Great value for money too.
