Jetboil Zip

The Jetboil Zip is a smaller stripped down version of the original Personal Cooking System. Jetboil have reduced the size of the cup to 0.8 Litre and removed the ignition system. This keeps the overall weight of the system to a minimum whilst still using the standard materials and makes the incredibly fast Jetboil system affordable to those on tighter budgets.

When on the move the burner and gas canister fit into the cup making it pretty compact. At camp lock the cup onto the burner, screw on the gas canister, pour in the water and light the gas...simple. And in two minutes you have enough boiling water for a Mountain House meal and a cup of tea.

For stability the Zip comes complete with stabiliser legs and a pot support if the jetboil cup is not being using.

If you are looking for an outdoor kettle, this is one of the best there is, but that is the limitation of this stove. The Piezo lighter is fairly unreliable, and necessitates the need of a backup lighter or firesteel. Although it is very difficult to do so, with larger gas canisters under high pressure (new 450gram canister making tea in the sunshine) it is possible to set fire to the neoprene casing, which melts onto the pan and is very difficult to get off again (I ended up using a chisel).

This should not be bought if you are intending to make food in it, ESPECIALLY PORRIDGE as the heat is too intense and everything buns to the bottom before the top is remotely warm, even with stirring. It is fine for heating boil in the bag meals, or boiling the water for dehydrated food obviously. I have demoted mine to a "making tea at the crag" stove, as I think it isn't reliable enough or versatile enough for proper camping cooking and isn't light enough for mountain marathons.
