The Inov8 X Talon 212 is an exceptional light weight racing shoe for trail use, so much so it is now the most popular off road shoe in the inov-8 range. The upper now uses a DWR coating improving the shoes ability to shred water and snow.
The performance last will ensure that this close fitting shoe holds your foot firmly in place on uneven ground especially whilst contouring. The graded lugs on the sticky rubber sole combined with widely spaced cleats ensure good grip and mud shedding performance. Whilst the centre of the sole has been formed into a Fascia Band, this is a replication of the plantar fascia ligament and it provides improved propulsion efficiency and reduces fatigue.
To provide a secure fit and to reduce weight the X Talon incorporates TPU Lacing Support using polymer upper supports that cradle the foot more evenly. Many users choose to replace the original 'cheese wire' laces with something a little broader.

I have used X-talon 212 a couple of years now and I'm still in love with this shoe. It is very light and it sits firmly on my foot. The transition from a normal jogging shoe to this more minimalistic shoe was a bit painful, it took some time to learn to go from heel strike to forefoot running.
Great product! It is very light and performs extremely well. Well done!
Excellent shoe. Plenty of underfoot protection and massive grip. These are the Precision fit, and fit my feet (not narrow but low volume) like a glove. if you have wide or high volume feet the Standard fit might be better for you.
I regularly run in the hills and also use fell shoes as lightweight shoes for attaching on my harness to descend from multipitch climbs. This is my 3rd pair of this particular Inov8 model. I forgot that the Inov8 design generally flakes off within 2 or 3 proper uses of rough running and more worryingly the rubber comes away at the toe within a similar amount of use though if i remember rightly it doesn't then give out any further. My shoes generally last less than a year for running but continue to be fine for approaching climbs for a good bit longer. They're super light and given the abuse they undergo do pretty well really!
Even just putting these shoes on for the first time got me excited at the prospect of running in them - it was a bit like getting your first pair of Walshes back in the day!
I was a bit wary of something so light and with a minimalist mid sole, but I needn't have been - they have been just superb on a variety of tough outings over the Dales moorlands and have also withstood two 7hour BGR recce sessions with only minimal wear on sole or upper - and trust me they got some hammer!
You feel VERY in touch with what's going on under your feet and this far outweighs any lack of cushioning - so much so that they sort of propel you along at a faster pace than I would normally ever consider running at for a long day.
When you look at the stud spacing you might think that they're a bit far apart but this seems to accentuate the grip on stony ground ... you sort of grip around stones rather than rolling over them.
As good on steep technical descents and on wet rock as anything I have ever run in.
I am a size 11 and the sizing was spot on. The lacing looks as thin as a string of licquorice but I have not yet had them ever come undone.
As you can tell I like my new best friends - and I would recommend them to anyone who likes to feel what they are running over and likes to run as fast as possible over difficult terrain.
I know two runners who completed their BGR's in these shoes start to finish, I WISH I had them for mine earlier this year and I really look forward to lots of PBs coming my way in these beauties.
Stuart - order in some more size 11s please ....
Lovely running shoe designed for races. It has a low profile and close fit to your foot. The laces are very good and stay double knotted without the need for tape even in heather and bracken. It is a very stable shoe and has a great grip on the sole. It is surprisingly durable when just used for races though the rubber studs do wear down over time. Very comfortable on soft surfaces but unsurprisingly not a shoe for a long race on hard tracks. Overall the best shoe for fell races and mountain marathons.
