The Inov8 X Claw 275 is a comfortable yet lightweight endurance shoe designed for seriously tough terrain. Designed as a more comfortable version of the popular X Talon the X Claw 275 has extra cushioning compared to the more minimal X Talon and with the standard Inov8 fit, as opposed to the precision fit, it will appeal to a wider range of people. It is ideal as an off-road training shoe, but would also suit those who can't get Inov8's traditional race shoes to fit well.
The Inov8 Claw is designed to provide the best grip off-road. The claw cleat stud configuration has been refined to allow mud and debris to release easily so you don't lose grip when running on loose ground. The rubber has also been improved and is now a Dual-C rubber compound which is a mix of medium and hard sticky rubbers to give maximum grip on rock whilst maintaining excellent stability and durability.
The X Claw 275 is designed to remain comfortable on long runs and has a Powerflow midsole which has much improved shock absorption and better energy return when compared to standard midsoles. A wider toe box also gives more comfort and allows your toes to splay. The lightweight upper is durable and there is a full rand and toe bumper for protection. An internal gusset also provides protection from debris when on quick descents.

This is a versatile shoe that offers a good performance on both the steeper fells and more rolling trails - for me, it is especially suited to longer distances as it has a roomier toe box as opposed to precision fit.
I have now done +100 miles in them and there is yet to be any substantial wear to the sole lugs or any upper damage - they have completed a number of 12 mile outings around Ilkley Moors, Legs 4&5 (together) of the Bob Graham and Round Ripon Ultra (interestingly there is quite a lot of road sections in this race and the shoe was surprisingly comfortable and I was able to run as though with a much less aggressive trail shoe).
I am a UK size 11 and the 11 in this shoe fits as per normal - I have quite a wide foot which means the likes of a Mudclaw will only do me for say 3 hours running before my toes start to complain, the toe box is wide and this felt a little odd at first, I thought my foot might slip around inside the shoe and lose me traction but it didn't really and the demands of BGR Leg4 puts any shoe under the microscope!!
I anticipate getting a good 300 miles of full performance out of this shoe - thereafter I would consider wearing it for approach work or treks in the mountains.
If I could only have one shoe for trail/fell/mountain work - this would be a very strong contender and would probably be the shoe I would go to for +50kms.
First run in these ; 8 miles of primarily wet muddy woodland paths with areas of loose stone ground. Steepish short ascents and descents and a bit of stream hopping. Comfort, support, grip and protection all excellent. Feet remained dryish [ not used to that ]. Pleased.
