inov-8 Debrisoc 38

The inov-8 Debrisoc 38 is a lightweight runner's sock combined with an over-gaiter designed to keep dirt & grit from entering your shoe whilst on the move. The Debrisoc is very popular in the Marathon Des Sables reducing the amount of sand in peoples shoes.
The Gaiter is constructed from the Coolmax® fabric which provides breathable, wicking protection from dust and grit and dries incredibly quickly. The Debrisoc also features padding on high-wear areas for comfort & durability.
Please note that the image depicts the sock as grey, this is to contrast the sock from the gaiter, the sock is actually black.

A great idea, but the socks aren't very durable - mine have holes in them after only a handful of runs :( Strange, because other Inov-8 socks I've got haven't had this problem.
While clearly NOT waterproof, I'd say the main benefits would be on sandy trails, or crashing through heather, where the gaiter does stop most stuff from getting inside your shoe.
A nice side benefit is that it keeps your laces clean! And anyone who has come back from a long muddy run with freezing numb hands will appreciate how much easier this makes it to get your shoes off.

I committed the worst crime in racing - I did something different on the day. A new pair of socks. On the start line of the Lakeland 50, this felt like a big, big risk...thank the fell Gods that Inov8 looked after me. The Debrisocs are amazing. They kept me as comfortable and blister free as it's possible to be during a 50 mile race. They stayed in place perfectly and I just forgot about them. That's the best thing you can say about any running accessory in my view!

These were bought for fell running in the thick heather and bracken of the Shropshire and Worcestershire hills in high summer. They are an excellent variation on the Debrisgaiter - they keep out the vegetation and preventing blisters, but are cooler, lighter and simpler. They are not waterproof, but that's not an achievable goal when running off road!
