Exped Shrink Dry Bag Review
Reviewer: Rachel Elliot, Hawick (28-3-2010)
Have always used Exped dry bags and love that they are so lightweight yet hardwearing. I was looking for a way to squash my massive MEquip synthetic sleeping bag down and save some space in my bag so I thought I'd give these ones a go. The bag itself is well constructed, as you'd expect from Exped, and being wider it sits really well in the bottom of a big pack. However, because of it’s shape, I found that you weren't able to "stuff" it as you would a normal shape dry bag - it didn't hold in the things you were stuffing into it and because of this it was hard to get the top rolled down enough to keep the air from getting in. The valve is a good idea, however I found that because you couldn't get it rolled down at the top any air you squeezed out of the bottom was just drawn back in at the top. It also seemed that when I squashed down my sleeping bag it actually blocked the valve. I think it would be useful for packing down smaller items but wouldn't really recommend it for big bulky items.

Exped Shrink Dry Bag Review

I love Exped dry bags, my one complaint was that if you had a bag of clothes or sleeping bags etc you spend ages trying to expel all of the air - then I found this bag. It has a 'valve' - it's actually more like a flap/bath plug, but it does the job, fill it up and squish out the air. Problem solved. Strangely this bag comes in a very wide shape rather than the tall and narrow shape like most of their other bags. It might be worth considering the Exped Shrink bag WB.
