The Vertical ST's are still a current Dynafit binding and are priced lower than the Radical equivalent. The Radical ST's offer some improved functionality over the Vertical ST's such as easier heel lifter adjustment, better step in functionality and a higher quality construction. However there is a significant price difference so the Vertical ST's will still be a good choice for many.

The Vertical ST still needs the special boots and has less toe release than a full automatic binding but it does have ski brakes, easy to operate toe piece lever and the heel lifter can be adjusted more easily with a ski pole.

The TLT Vertical STs are aimed at those who split their time equally between piste and touring. They are much lighter than a fully automatic touring binding like a Diamir Eagle, 1040g per pair as opposed to 1720g, but are more difficult to put on and have a compromised toe release, which is all down to the minimal toe piece and lack of central bar. The Verticals ski absolutely fine on the piste and you won't notice the difference unless you are a powerful and heavy skier, skiing hard, but once you are away from the piste and climbing then the weight difference really shows.

The Vertical STs are maybe not the best choice for the occasional tourer (please see related products for other options) but for those who think of touring more than piste conditions then they are a great binding that will do everything.

Dynafit Boot Compatibility

Unlike automatic step in bindings, we need to have your boot to mount the binding, rather than just it's length, so you will need to send us a boot shell which will be returned with your skis and bindings. We can pick the boot up from you, just give us a call. Determine if your boot is compatible.

Ski Brakes

The Verticals come complete with brakes. When you add the binding to your basket you will be asked which size of ski brake you require. The brake needs to be wider than the ski waist but the closer it is in size the better it will work.

Bought these bindings from Facewest earlier this month: Fantastic service from Facewest. Had them fitted to movement Logic skis and the combination has been brilliant. Skied this week mostly off piste, one day touring, and they were fabulous in all conditions: surprisingly effective on piste too. No early release, great both climbing and descending in all conditions. Highly recommended.

I converted to these after 4 seasons on Fritschis as a "do-it-all set up" - a 1600m vertical ski-tour last season made me consider 1600 good reasons to switch!

The +/- 1kg weight saving on your feet and the fact that you lift your boot only on each stride and not the whole binding is the main obvious advantage. The pivot point at the toe (compared to in front of the boot for Fritschis) makes for a more natural and efficient stride when skinning and being closer to the ski feels more stable and allows better kick-turns.

They ski brilliantly - being so much closer to the ski than the Fritschi is a big advantage and again the weight saving is really noticeable when it comes to tight or bumpy terrain that requires quick short radius turns. I took about three outings on them to feel totally proficient and slick when using them.

I held back making the switch as I was concerned about possible compromised toe-release. Seems to be some debate over this but I am happy to report that mine released at exactly the right moment following 3 spills on one tour (variable snow!). No problems with pre-release experienced. Ski crampons feel much more secure that the Fritschis but have a lot more drag and you can't fold them back when not in use.

Seem really robust to me and I see plenty of people skiing 115mm fat skis pretty aggressively around Cham who seem to not have any problems! If you have a dedicated touring set up or do mostly touring then these are the way to go in my opinion - an absolute revelation!

Nice and light compared to the Diamir bindings which really makes a difference going uphill! I was warned off these bindings by the ski shop where I got my boots, because apparently they don't hold up well going downhill!! I'm really very glad I ignored this! These bindings are used by almost all of the alpine guides and they love them! I'm a fairly aggressive skier and they held up beautifully. They only released when they were supposed to. I have ski brakes with mine and they work fine.

The one thing I would say is that the ski crampons are a bit of a fiddle to take off with cold hands with this binding. Overall a really good binding for mountaineering if you like keeping things light.

You buy these because they are amazingly light, which they are. I bought some Dynafit skis also and they are perfectly balanced for touring. The difference is very noticeable up hill.

My only complaint on these is they take a while to master and they don't work well with the ski brakes on. I'm about to remove mine. The pole holes at the back could be stronger also. I broke both of mine due to too much force applied (my fault) whilst the brakes were preventing the heal mechanism from turning freely. They are a £10 part apparently so no big deal to fix. The bindings are however essentially very robust. Mine have never pre-released, and have released when needed.
