The Dynafit TLT Speed is a dedicated ski tourist's binding. It is aimed at skiers who either have 2 pairs of skis, one for the piste and one for touring or for those to whom piste skiing is a chore rather than a pleasure.

The TLT Speed is Dynafit's purist binding. It is strong, functional but minimalist. There are no ski brakes available so the bindings must be used with leashes. Ski crampons are available as an optional extra. The binding relies on the rigidity of the boot when in touring mode so there is no metal bar linking the front and rear heel piece. This makes for a much lighter weight binding but the bindings are more fiddly to put on and off especially in deep snow. Also the pinch pin front offers compromised security over a fully automatic step in binding like a Diamir or standard alpine binding. The rear release is pretty good but there is no sideways toe release. The choice of no, medium or high heel lift is achieved by rotating the heel piece which is possible with a pole but generally done by hand, again a bit more fiddly than a Diamir.

Don't think that I don't like these bindings, I have 3 pairs of skis and they all have Dynafit bindings, I no longer use anything else. If you are a dedicated ski tourer then the Dynafit TLT Speed is a good choice but for the first time or occasional tourer then these are not the best bindings to get (please see alternatives below).

Dynafit Boot Compatibility

Dynafit bindings require the use of special ski boots which have inserts in the side and rear to accept the pins from the binding. Unlike automatic step in bindings, we need to have your boot to mount the binding, rather than just it's length, so you will need to send us a boot shell which will be returned with your skis and bindings. We can pick the boot up from you, just give us a call. Determine if your boot is compatible.
