Diamir Freeride Plus Review
Reviewer: Ian, Edinburgh (13-7-2010)
Have been using these for two seasons now having had my downhill bindings removed and these fitted when I started to get into ski touring.
They are very easy to operate with clip in clip out simplicity and after maybe a day of getting used to being slightly higher up (you are maybe 2cm above the ski) I have felt very little difference in performance between these and my previous downhill bindings. I’ve had no problems with the release system, I have the DIN set to 7 or 8 and they release very predictably. Equally I have not experienced any issues with them going into touring mode while skiing.
They can also be used with downhill boots as well as alpine touring. Easy length size adjustment of the binding also allows for use with different boots/skiers if you want to lend them to someone or perhaps swap them during the day; similar to (though not quite as easy as) a rental binding. Heavier than some options (e.g. Dynafit) but for the secure feel and ease of use I tend to think it is worth it (I’m definitely more interested in the downhill than the up!). I completed the Haute Route last year using these fitted to a set of fairly old Rossignol B2’s and did not find the weight to be any problem.

Have used these for a couple of seasons now and they are fast becoming my "everyday" setup - certainly my most used. Currently deployed on a 92mm waisted ski and have had many happy tours with them and even happier descents. I aint a hardcore tourer nor a proper hard charger for that matter so these suit me just fine. Feel very secure, DIN range big enough for most of us (I'm pretty heavy). Height off the ski these put you at takes a bit of getting used to and may not be to everyone's liking, but for the mixed conditions I tend to ski in it suits me fine. I'm actually going to retire the ski they're on but they will be remounted on its bigger replacement and I'm sure they will handle their new home with ease. Not the lightest out there but again a good compromise between up and down. Only real negative these days is that the available harscheisen is only for up-to 100mm wide skis (there is a brake up to 115mm though).

An excellent piece of kit - solidly constructed with a quality feel. Mount them on one of the many versatile, lighter mid-fat skis (90-100mm underfoot) available today and you can do everything on this rig. Ski lift-served off-piste, backcountry, day-touring and piste.
If you can only justify/afford one ski set-up then this is the way to go. Good for anything but the most aggressive skiing and longer/multi-day touring (unless you are properly fit and don't mind the extra weight!). I skiied two full seasons on these and they hold up well to fast, aggressive, heavier skiers and are easily enough binding to drive today's mid-fat skis. I have them on Black Diamond Kilowatts and this works great as a "one ski quiver" as the Americans say.
They work great in touring mode and the optional ski-crampons feel solid and secure on those sketchy traverses. Adjustments to the binding are easily made on the hill. Good when you rush out of the house to get the first lift for touring and realise they are still set up for your downhill boots.
Perhaps not brilliant on the piste at high speed, but who wants to ski there anyway?

A great binding which I used every day last season for general piste bashing to multi day tours and ski mountaineering.
This binding is much more durable than I would have given it credit for before using it. It is also very user friendly being easy to set up and adjust to different boots. Touring is simple and once mastered the heel lift can be operated easily with a ski pole.
When dialled, I found I had to increase the DIN slightly compared to other alpine bindings, I had no pre release issues and they came off when I needed them to. It has to be said they are heavy when compared to Dynafit offerings however the price point, ease of use and compatibility are great.
If you can only have a one ski quiver you can’t go far wrong with these.

This is a great binding. It is relatively light and very easy to use. It is positive to snap into - the toe is much beefier than the original and the heel closes with a really positive click now.
The lift you get above the ski makes edging easy and the ski more responsive. The integrated brakes work well and sit well clear of the ski - even with wide waisted ones.
Climbing is easy to do and the heel lift easy to engage and alter with a ski pole.
