The Deuter Guide 45+ is a large climbing, mountaineering & expedition pack which is designed for maximum comfort when climbing and scrambling. The Guide 45+ features the Deuter Alpine back system, an extremely supportive yet light frame which will keep you comfortable even when the pack is fully loaded. The single large compartment - with optional divider and dual entry - can be expanded thanks to it's floating lid to give you enough capacity for almost any climbing situation including multi-day routes. The durable ice-axe loops, daisy chains, hip-belt gear-loops and a-frame ski-carry mean that this pack is ideal for year round alpinism and mountaineering as well as mountain rock and cragging.
The Deuter Guide 45+ is constructed from super-durable Deuter Macrolite fabric which offers superb abrasion resistance for gnarling your way up chimneys in Wales or hauling on big alpine faces. Much of the weight of the pack can be stripped, including the back system to give a stripped weight of 1.65kg. This might be our most versatile mountaineering sack with the performance, flexibility and capacity to cope with the most extreme mountaineering scenarios.

Deuter Guide 45+ Review
Reviewer: Øystein Wiggen, Trondheim (26-1-2012)
I was looking for a do it all backpack, hiking, climbing and snowboarding, and this became my perfect choice. I can easily fit my entire rack in this pack, and then some. Even fully packed it does not feel uncomfortable on my back, and it does not feel that heavy when carrying it around. I am super satisfied, and highly recommend this backpack if you are looking for a do it all pack!

Deuter Guide 45+ Review

Bought this pack primarily to use as a day pack when needing to carry more items, particularly in winter, but have used it this summer for a number of expeditions. It is my first Deuter pack and I have been extremely impressed with all aspects of it - especially the build quality. It comfortably swallows up all the gear needed for a two-day, one-night camping expedition while remaining very well-balanced and comfortable to carry even over more challenging terrain. The back ventilation system is as good as others I have tried - in truth, none can be completely effective. The side opening is a nice touch, allowing ready access to items in the main compartment without having to open the lid.

Deuter Guide 45+ Review

I used the Deuter 45+ for a 7-day ski tour, the Route Haute. It offers lots of storage space for all gear: shovel, probe, spare fritschi binding etc. - The backpack is very robust, I especially liked the rope attachment under the top lid and the heavy duty zip to access the bottom compartment. It was comfortable to wear and the weight transfer to the hips was good.
I tried the Ortovox Peak 42 Pack as well, but I did not like it as the shoulder straps were very narrow at the top plus I did not really trust the little zips at the Ortovox. Negatives: top lid compartment quite small, no side pockets for water, about 400 g too heavy.
For the next ski tour I will go for the smaller 35 liter guide backpack - the bigger the pack, the more you carry. On the first day one of the compression straps came off - I've now sent the pack back and I hope Deuter will replace / repair it.
