Previously I had just used standard backpacks when snowboarding/skiing, but on chair lifts they mean you're quite far off the back of the seat or have to try and get your pack over the back of the seat.

So I thought I would invest in a proper pack. Using for a week snowboarding in Jasna, this definitely fitted my requirements; I hardly noticed I had it on and it was more than adequate for carrying my items for a day around the resort. Plus, the water in the bladder didn't freeze at all despite some pretty cold days.

Almost perfect day pack for on piste holiday-skier. I have used 4 days skiing in Chamonix.

+ Slim profile - no need to take off for chair lifts

+ Perfect size for me as a day trip skier - extra jumper, hydration pack, food, goggles etc.

+ good range of adjustable straps to get good, snug fit on your back.

- too small if you are advanced / off piste skier to carry your kit

- flimsey ski carry brackets - my top one broke 2nd day of me carrying my skis from the ski lift to the bus stop - not exactly hiking in the backcountry!

= not suitable for serious skiers / if you are using heavy duty for the season, but great for your day trip skier. Wouldn't rely on the ski carry brackets for proper hikes.

The big question for me was how much could I fit into the pack. After my first weeks skiing I was very pleased. I could get 1.5 l of water, shovel and probe with room for a fleece, goggles, sunnies, sandwich , cream and gloves. It is a very low profile pack which is great on the lifts but limits how much you can cram in. I found it perfect for my skiing. I was very keen to have the integral hydration feature. Whilst this was good , it doesn't go well with camel backs. I found it difficult to feed the pipe through the strap and its not easy to get the normal Camelback mouth piece to fit inside the strap. Also the water was constantly freezing inside the mouthpiece inside the strap on colder days. Overall I was very happy with the pack and look forward to using it for cycling and day hiking.

This bag is perfect for the regular rider. It is very low profile which helps you feel balanced whilst riding. The shoulder straps click together at the waist and chest so you never feel like the bag is bouncing around on your back.

The board carry bit on the back took a little while to figure out but now I use it whenever I'm hiking for some refreshments. This leaves both hands free for climbing/drinking/throwing snowballs. very useful!

I purchased this bag for general all-day on piste snowboarding, and it's a great solution.

For me the main selling point was that a Dakine hydration pack can be added, and you can run the rubber drinking tube all the way through the arm of the bag so that the drinking nozzle is easily accessible through the small zip, and the tube is protected from freezing.

Another great feature of this bag is that it is low profile to your back - good for balance and sitting on chairlifts. Also the bag is held securely in place with waist and chest straps.

The snowboard vertical carry option works well too. As a boarder, I've not used the ski carry option.

I find the bag plenty big enough, you can easily carry a jumper, lunch and more in the main body, but for hard core skiers or those that want to carry a lot you may wish to consider a bigger bag in the range.

The bag is well made and long lasting, and everything most people will ever need on the slopes.
