Coll Tex Liquid Glue

Coll Tex Liquid Glue

Coll Tex liquid skin glue for repairing the glue after heavy use or contamination.

Although there is enough glue in the tube to fully re glue a pair of skins the liquid glue is best for repairing smaller patches of glue and re doing the tails when the rest of the glue is still good.

It's not as difficult to reglue your skins as you might think. I used a heat gun and a wide scraper to remove the old glue first. Anchoring the skins down at one end to keep them taught as you scrape off the old glue helps. The Coll Tex glue is quite easy to apply. Spread a thin coat evenly and then hang the skins up overnight to allow the solvent to evaporate. My reglued skins now stick to my skis just like they did when the skins were new.

Having re glued a pair of Black Diamond Glidelite skins with adhesive transfer tape I used this liquid glue for some small holes in the glue in a pair of G3 (Genuine Guide Gear) skins. Very easy to apply to bare patches, and dried off in a couple of of hours, leaving excellent result.

In use on the mountains skins behaved extremely well: no problems with glue, skin stickiness, ease of removing, and worked well for patching gaps in glue. Great for small repairs.

I purchased this glue to use on G3 alpinist skins, which were around 2 years old and which had completely lost their stick. I am aware that scraping the glue off completely and reglueing using the iron on strips is the proper approach for completely redoing the glue but I was mid-tour so I didn't have that option.

I followed the instructions on the tube of coll tex exactly: basically, you simply spread a layer of new glue over the old glue then let it cure overnight. Spreading the glue on is a messy business and, as you might expect, it doesn't wipe off easily!

The next day the skins were back to being almost as sticky as they were when they were new and I had no further problems for the rest of the tour, which lasted another 4 days.

I didn't use the skins again last year and I stored them in the recommended manner using the G3 cheat sheet in the skin bag. I got the skins out to use this season (a long term test this one!) and they have completely lost their stick again.

So, in summary, this stuff is ok for a (relatively expensive) quick fix when you are in a fix but it doesn't last long. I might have given 3 stars if it had lasted just a bit longer.
