Camp XLS Snow Shovel
£14.00
Do not buy this shovel as your primary method of digging in avalanche rescue. It is not good enough for that task.
The Camp XLS Shovel is the lightest 'shovel' in the world and was designed to be carried in ski mountaineering competitions, where there is a requirement to carry a shovel but nobody will ever use it. We sell them only for people who will use them in that context and wish to say again This shovel is no good for avalanche rescue. The XLS could be used by the secondary shoveller for shifting already dug snow, but you would still be better off with a proper shovel. See related products below.
If you are going to do some competitive ski touring then this is the 'shovel' to have. Only 157g and accepted as adequate by the ISMF.
Can also be used as a tea tray, clip board and bum sled but not a shovel

Camp XLS Snow Shovel Review

I bought this "shovel" as an emergency shovel for the backcountry trips when a proper shovels does not seem to be strictly necessary. I was a bit sceptical as to whether the Camp XLS Shovel would tackle firmer snow. But actually, it did pretty well. It's of course not super comfortable, but it is able to move snow a lot faster than your hands are. It's very lightweight. I do not recommend it for avalanche rescue, though.

Camp XLS Snow Shovel Review

You’d be surprised how well this product works as a shovel, and is adequate for digging even though it is not really recommended. Lets just say in trial runs it has worked fine and has even been used for creating snow caves and hollows.
It is not the best tool for the job but it works, and in an emergency you’d be much happier with than without.
Light but flexible, cheap and cheerful - but in an emergency situation its better than nothing!
