Bridgedale Wool Fusion Trail

The Bridgedale Wool Fusion Trail is a lightweight sock that is ideal for walking in warmer conditions where you want some good underfoot padding as well as lighter weight for breathability. The trail is is constructed using Bridgedale's WoolFusion, a combination of tough New Wool and Endurofil yarn that ensures insulation, moisture wicking and durability. This is achieved by wrapping the Endurofil around each wool fibre providing the ultimate performance combination.

The Trail sock has bands of Lycra in the key areas, across the ankle under the foot and around the neck. This holds the sock in place preventing it rolling on the foot and roughing up.

The "new wool" Woolfusion range, from Bridgedale, is the traditional style, previously known as "Endurance", intended for colder conditions, and with a proper kitted cuff.

By contrast, the Merinofusion range (prev. "Comfort") has a better wicking, but less warm tech fabric, perhaps intended for less cold conditions. In particular, that range has the loose knitted cuffs.

I much prefer the traditional double-knit cuffs (the top part) of this Woolfusion range.

This sock, the Trail, is the 3rd warmest in the Endurance/Woolfusion range, which starts with the warmest Summit, then the Trekker, then the Trail.

It's all relative though; the Summit might be suitable for sub-zero Alpine winter trekking, whereas the Trail is more suitable for normal UK conditions.

The quality is quite good; mind you, my mother thinks the loose yarn on the inside isn't very impressive. But they feel like nice quality.

I would recommend a quick hand-wash, drip-dry, as they are inclined to shrink if machine washed/dried.

It doesn't say so on this site, but according to the Bridgedale site these socks have a 3-year guarantee.

I got the navy/green colour, which looks very nice, quite understated.

There may be other well-known competitors, but Bridgedale are at least UK based, being made in Northern Ireland for almost 100 years.

I like the Trail; I use the warmer socks when I need to, but the Trail are good for everyday use, and not too hot to leave on all day, when going in and out.

Recommended.
