Used with Black Diamond 3 piece poles in deep and fresh powder.

Pros: Easy to fix on, robust, large enough size to be effective under load.

Cons: None

Cheap, good value baskets I bought on a punt to fit my leki walking poles.

On piste, I gave them a hammering for a few days, and they remained undamaged despite rotating on the edges on the hard snow.

Off piste, they worked well in powder, and I think i will keep them on my walking poles because they also float better over Scottish bogs!

The only issue that I had is my ski brake got trapped into one of the circular holes around the basket perimeter - I may cut the small plastic links to prevent it happening again. Having said that, it's probably one of those "couldn't do it again if i tried to" problems!

I've BD Traverse touring poles from Facewest, which although some ski-tourers get a bit sniffy about two-piece poles, I've found the poles to be superb, especially the grips 3/4 of the way up the top section, which are very useful on traverses. However, a pole without a powder basket is as useful as a fondue spike-thing whilst touring, so having one (or two) spare baskets to hand on-mountain is no bad idea. I had a friend lose a basket first day into the Silvretta Traverse, so it does happen. So, a couple of spare BD baskets will always be in my spares pack.

I needed some powder baskets for a trip to Japan, and these did the job perfectly. They are a "standard" fit, so should be compatible with most poles (mine are Atomics and I had no problem fitting them). Facewest were also the cheapest place I could find them!
