Lightweight lantern perfect for those dark hours
Reviewer: Lars-Petter Jevnaker, Bergen (23-2-2012)
First of all: This product is probably one of those which gets left at home when weight is an issue, but for the dark hours in the tent on winter hikes it has become a good friend (comes in addition to a headlamp). I like to read when I’m out camping and then this BD lantern does the job providing enough light and making me able to have bare head. This is just another great LED-technology product. On hikes below freezing I find it necessary to warm up the batteries before I put it on. Otherwise they won’t last very long.

If you are looking for a great little tent light, then this is it. It's pocket sized (pulls out to extend when used) & can either be freestanding or attached to pretty much anything in the tent. The light is good (I use it in a 4 man tent) & has a useful dimmer (activated by keeping your finger on the on /off switch).
The only thing I find slightly irritating is that the on /off switch is difficult to locate in the dark as it is flush with the body of the lamp. Fairly minor point though.

Exactly what I was looking for! A light weight LED-lantern to use in my tent. It lights my entire tent with ease, and the frosted glass provides a nice feel to the light. It folds up to a compact size when not in use, and it is very light. Very nice product from Black Diamond:)

This is actually very nice - at first you would think what's the use when you have a L.E.D headlight. I use Petzl Tikka XP2 myself, but have found this piece of gear very useful on many occasions. For example, although you could hang your headlamp from the tent roof, the Orbit works so much better, illuminating the tent evenly. Also works very well as a tabletop light in a hut or similar. Low weight means you can bring this with you even when counting grams, and it eats the same type of battery (AAA) as many led headlights, so you can minimize the spares needed. The dimming option is a nice addition. Well done BD!
