The Black Diamond Momentum AL is one of the most popular harnesses on the market. It combines low weight, great build quality and good value making it an ideal harness for someone just starting out in climbing.

Bought this as my first harness for sport climbing. No-nonsense design, very comfy, pretty light, and superb value for money.

As a previous reviewer stated, the size guide seems a little off. My waist measures 32in (81cm) and I went for the medium size, which is fine but I have the wait adjusted almost as tight as possible. I think a small would have worked. If you're hesitating between sizes go for the smaller one, but check the manufacturer's minimum webbing tail recommendation when adjusted.

The harness is comfortable but comes out a bit bigger than indicated by the guides. It's relatively light and has a good set of straps but not as good as some others.

I initially purchased this harness for winter use. It works extremely well in this environment as its buckles are big enough and thread smoothly enough to easily accommodate use with gloved hands. The individual suspender clips allow for the harness to be fully undone and put on without lifting your feet off the ground – a very useful option on small winter stances while wearing crampons.

The ridged rectangular shaped gear loops also provide good structural resistance for clipping on gear. Their wide nature allows for ample racking space, and the four loop nature of the harness promotes a simplistic racking system.

However, this simplistic nature could also be its only down fall as I feel it would benefit from an additional gear loop at the rear. It is to be noted that the harness is incredibly comfy, even in prolonged hanging stance scenarios, so much so I am considering using it as my summer trad harness.
