The Black Diamond Ion weighs 28g including the battery. Bright unregulated ½ Watt LED with tilting head for directional light source. Elastic head band with toggle adjustment. Uses 1 6V battery (camera battery), Gives a 22m beam at full power and total burn time of 8 hours or 15 hours at low power.

Like all standard LED headlamps the Ion is good for looking at maps, using in a tent, looking in your sack or lighting your feet when walking in the dark. It does not have a beam that will penetrate darkness for looking into the far distance. The Ion is an unregulated headtorch. See below for more details. The Ion is fantastically simple and light. The strap can be tied around a tent pole, the wrist or worn on the head. A great torch for the space and weight conscious who will not need a beam or as an emergency car/pocket torch.

Excellent product. So small and light that you hardly know you are wearing it and it slips easily into a pocket. We have several on our yacht and they are invaluable when sailing at night when we try to avoid using cabin lights whenever possible. Also used one recently at home when we had a power cut which lasted several hours. It was superb.

This is the best weight to light ratio head torch you can get. The two modes both provide a good amount of usable light for many nocturnal adventures. Easily enough to run or walk over easy ground in familiar places. The torch sits on your head nicely and does not excessively bounce around. Battery though slightly expensive to replace gives good performance even when cold. Good when going out lightweight but also good as a space torch in case your main torch batteries go.
