Black Diamond Hexentrics were developed for the crack routes of Yosemite valley by Chouinard Equipment in the early 70's. Since then they have be come a stable part of the trad climbers rack world wide. They offer a cheaper alternative to the modern caming device such as the Camalot plus they have the massive advantage in that they don't walk in flared cracks and fall out.
Hex's are made from high quality aluminium that has been shaped to offer three varying widths making them very versatile, and when turned on their axis their tapered shape provides a fourth alternative. Each Hex has been coloured anodised, this is really helpful when you need to select the right size quickly.

Excellent quality replacements for the ancient hexes on rope I inherited from my dad! Smaller sizes great for granite and the big 11 will serve me well on the grit. Perfect additions to my rack.
This harness fits well, is very comfortable and easy to put on and adjust. It is quite light weight but it was cheap. I think it will be fine for me to use indoors on a climbing wall and occasionally outside. great value for money.
I chose the Hexcentrics to complete my Trad climbing rack as I had a good experience with the Black Diamond Stoppers and was impressed by the build quality.
The Black Diamond Hexcentrics are a wire hex which is uncommon but I find the wire helps me place the hex easier and allows me to extend using sling and quick draws as long as I please to reduce rope drag.
Would buy again, bought size 6 and 7 which matches the larger sizes BD stoppers to create a seamless rack.
I bought a Hexcentric number 3 to complement the 4-10 set I already had. The 3 is about as large as a medium/large nut/wire, but because it has a different shape it's a nice addition to your rack. 1 of each of sizes 4-6 (3-7 if you really like them) is enough though, as I find I place them much less often then other nuts.
The Hexcentrics are great protection. They can substitute friends/cams in many situations. They are also considerably lighter and of course, much cheaper. I think they are great value, and they are very versatile. They are an essential part of my alpine climbing rack.
I always liked this type of nut and these work very well. The cable draws seem to hold up very well. It is a shame that after a few uses they look all scratch up, but this is the case with anything anodized.
