    Full Description

The ATC Pilot is a mechanical autolocking belay device that is suitable for use with single ropes from 8.7 to a 10.5mm diameter and is a lighter and simpler alternative to a Gri Gri.

It combines the performance of a full autolocker with the low weight and simplicity of a traditional belay plate. It allows the rope to be paid out smoothly whilst adding an extra level of security by automatically locking off the rope if the climber should fall. In order to avoid moving parts, the ATC Pilot uses the belay carabiner as the cam which locks the rope in the event of a fall. Ergonomically designed and simple to use, for both right and left handed belayers.

The ATC Pilot is ideal for single rope climbing, be it training at the wall or holiday sport climbing in the sunshine.

I love this ingenious little device. It does a remarkable job for such a deceptively simple looking and light bit of kit. My son has started belaying me which is obviously scary so I was keen to reduce the risk as much as possible so thought I'd try this out. It's very intuitive and easy to learn. Paying rope out fast when required is easy so you don't have to curse your belayer and lowering off is smooth and easily controlled so you don't have to curse your belayer. And then it is auto locking so you can still drive your belayer home.
