The BCA Snow Study Kit is good for what it is, way beyond novice level. It’s a good idea if you're attending a Henry's Avalanche Talks (HAT). Also handy if touring a lot and digging hasty pits and Reutsch blocks every day. This is a bit of kit where a lot of knowledge is essential to get the best from it.
The case is an ideal size for side pouch or top pocket on most touring size bergans. I stress not for the novice, it will just confuse you.
