The BCA Float 36 Avalanche Air Bag is a larger version of the Float 18 pack and is better suited to full day tours off piste providing additional avalanche safety and capacity. The Float 36 contains a quick to operate air bag that can be quickly deployed in 3 seconds by pulling the trigger handle that is located on the shoulder strap. When activated the air bag is inflated with compressed air from a cylinder that is inside the Float pack. When inflated the air bag is deployed behind the head and shoulders and in an avalanche situation this does not compromise your periphery vision or mobility. If you were to be caught it will prevent burial and dramatically reduce any trauma.

An excellent feature of the Float range is that the air bag and cylinder are completely reusable and refillable. In fact the cylinder can be refilled at many scuba shops and paintball centres, it shares a fitting with a paintball cylinder. Full instructions are included with the bag.

The Float 36 pack is ideal for day tours - your shovel and probe are neatly packed in external sleeves, allowing for fast access, inside there is enough capacity to carry extra clothing, skins, food and drink, all kept stable by external compression straps. Skis or board can easily be attached to the pack via vertical carry loops, a helmet carried via the helmet carry loops and your goggles have their own pocket too. For ski mountaineering the Float 36 features dual ice axe loops.

The Float 36 should never be the first piece of avalanche safety gear you turn to - transceiver, shovel and probe are all much more important - however if you have all of those and still want an extra level of safety then it really is the ultimate avalanche protection.
