The Arcteryx Womens Venta SV Jacket is an extremely weather resistant softshell top. It is the perfect jacket for long days in the hills and mountains where you will need protecting from all but the wettest of weather. This is a top choice for alpinism and ski touring or as part of a winter climbing layering system.
The Venta SV is made from three different types of Gore Windstopper fabric this ensures breathability and weather resistance. The fully adjustable drop hood is helmet compatible making this ideal for climbing and ski touring. Should you get too warm the pit zips can quickly be undone to allow excellent venting. Each seam is taped, this enhances the water repellent properties of the jacket however although there is a membrane within the fabric it should not be considered to be waterproof. That said this membrane will resist water and combined with the water shedding properties of the DWR finish ensures that the Venta has high levels of weather resistance.
The windproof membrane is laminated into the fabric and although the membrane is breathable it is not as breathable as Power Shield, where the membrane is perforated. For a less windproof but more breathable jacket then the consider the Arcteryx Womens Gamma MX Hoody (please see related products below).

Arcteryx Womens Venta SV Jacket Review
Reviewer: Sandra, DD, Germany (3-2-2012)
Amazing jacket. I bought it as an alternative to a classic hardshell for those times when I don't really need something fully waterproof. The jacket runs rather small, especially if you want to wear a fleece layer underneath; I bought it one size bigger than usual and can now wear it even over a light down jacket when it gets really cold. It kept me out of wind, rain and snow during trekking up to 4.000 m, and it also delivers when temperatures drop well below freezing. With a medium loft fleece underneath I feel comfortably warm. Great hood, good sleeve length. Two little things that could be improved, though: The internal pocket should be passport-sized, and the edges of the velcro cuffs are way too sharp (razor-sharp, that is - ouch).
