Arcteryx Theta SV Bib

Arcteryx Theta SV Bib

The Arcteryx Theta SV Bib is the official uniform leg wear of the British Mountain Guides. As a user group, you don't get one much more demanding than the BMG, so you know straight away that it's a proven great choice.

The Theta SV Bib is made from 3 Layer Gore-Tex® Pro Shell, this is the toughest and most durable waterproof fabric in the Gore-Tex® range so they will provide the maximum protection from the very worst weather. This durable 80 denier fabric has 115 denier reinforcement on the knees, lower leg and seat, ensuring the Theta SV Bib will cope easily in the harshest mountain environments. They have been designed with a relaxed fit, ensuring that they will go over soft shell climbing trousers easily and they benefit from e3D - ergonomic 3-Dimensional patterning that enables maximum articulation and aids greater freedom of movement. They have been constructed for intense activity, so they provide the high levels of breathability required by the climber, mountaineer or ski/snowboard tourer.

The WaterTight™ two way zips allow the the bib trousers to be fully separated and allow easy donning and removal. Extra protection is provided around the ankle areas with super tough Keprotec fabric patches that will resist the sharpest ski edge or crampon teeth. A snowproof seal is easily created with the internal Cordura® PowderCuff™ gaiter, combined with the lace hooks, securing the Theta SV Bibs to your boots.

Featured Pro Review

The Theta bib pants are great, extremely well built; robust and nicely contoured. I like the snug fit of the bib, which seems particularly good at keeping warmth in next to the torso, whilst still allowing movement such as wide bridging moves to find the best footholds when climbing! Working in the hills every day in some pretty testing conditions, I need clothing that allows me to focus on my clients, not on staying warm and dry; Arcteryx apparel routinely delivers that long lasting comfort and always looks well tailored and professional.

This is an early review before any hardcore action. The Theta SV bib is close fitting but full length side zips make getting them on over boots (ski or walking) easy. The powder cuffs, zips and studs are of the usual Arcteryx superb quality. The re-enforced knee and seat along with zips etc make these trousers slightly heavier than standard waterproofs but they feel like they'll last a lifetime. Can't wait to get back into the mountains to give them a harder trial. Medium is a good fit (5ft 10" 12St/75Kg).

Bought these for Scottish winter and alpine climbing. I am 6'1'' and 77kg, so slim(ish) with a 32' leg.

The large swamped me but the medium is a great, athletic fit. They have a number of excellent features including quality full length side zips with a top and bottom puller, the top having a tag for ease of finding. They have a high cut and keep me warm front and back around the mid-riff.

Hardwearing material and excellent large crampon patches are good; the only real issue with material is the lack of an extra durable cover around the area ice screws will catch hanging from a harness; you could carry them with covers on but not a great option pumped and trying to remove on steep ice.

Two very small zipped pockets on the upper front of the trousers seem a little redundant but might be useful for a key or whistle.

Overall, these are the best waterproofs I've come across and I looked at many and tried on a bucket load. Expensive no doubt but for the best of the best, worth every penny.
