The Arcteryx Atom SV Hoody is a great belay jacket to have in your pack for those cold stances. It packs away really small but when needed delivers exceptional insulation. In really cold weather the Atom SV can be used as a super warm mid layer or in sleety wet conditions under a hardshell providing warmth and protection. All in all a very versatile jacket that is ideal for alpine climbing, ski-touring or trekking in the hills and mountains. Though it is equally at home around town too.
Cut to allow freedom of movement with articulated elbows, gusseted underarms and superbly designed cuffs that are constructed from a stretch woven fabric. The close fitting hood will sit under a climbing helmet but is not adjustable, allowing it to fit comfortably under the hood of you hardshell.
Coreloft Insulation:
The LT Hoody uses Coreloft insulation, a lightweight synthetic insulation that is very compressible and light but expands very quickly when unpacked. Coreloft is made up of thicker fibres than other leading insulation brands, which means it will not penetrate the outer fabric.

Arcteryx Atom SV Hoody Review

Spent some time looking for a replacement for my Rab Photon Hoodie and was tempted just to get a new Rab until I came across this option. It is an excellent well-made jacket that fits really well and looks good everywhere from the ski slopes of Alpe d'huez to the streets of Edinburgh. One slight criticism is the lack of ability to roll the hood away when it's not in use. Overall, a good replacement for my old synthetic layer that I would recommend even despite the slightly higher cost of an Arcteryx garment.

All Atom garments are very well made, and surprisingly warm considering their low weight. This jacket in particular is of typical Arc´teryx quality, but anybody considering buying this jacket for climbing should be aware of a few details:
First of all, it would make a great belay jacket for those who climb fast (short belays or fast & light climbing) but for sustained belays it might be a bit thin. Second, the pockets are quite small, and a pair of belays mitts will barely fit inside the outer pockets. There is only one inner pocket, and it is also quite small - which isn’t ideal for drying wet gloves.
Other than that it’s a great jacket for fast and light climbing, or any other situation that calls for a moderately warm synthetic jacket.
